SOUTHDOWN Leyland PD3 in traditional Southdown Apple Green & Cream Livery BUF 278C Engine: Leyland 0600 Fleet Number: 278
278 has had a varied history, she was new to Southdown Motor Services in 1965 where she saw service at a variety of depots across the South coast. She was mainly operated in and around the Brighton area as she was one of many Queen Mary's transferred to the Brighton & Hove 'Southdown' fleet.

Current Update/ Status:
During this year she will be attending the Portsmouth 'Back to the 70's' Running Day, The Newbury Showground rally and also the Horsham Running Day. 278 is on the road but not booked for many events therefore allowing her to undergo some light refurbishments. The side skirts on the lower and upper deck of the bus are both to be rubbed down a painted as is the platform area.
278 will also have a complete 'top to bottom' deep clean before the running day to make sure she is looking her best. Our buses are not in ex Bus Works condition however they do have 'the service realism' that the bus would of had when it was operating.
So what's already happened? Well we have completely rubbed down all four rims as they were looking tired and scruffy and we have now painted them back into the original (or close to) Dark Green which the Queen Mary's wore when in service with Southdown, We have also just recently received a top blind for the bus from Chris Pearce, this has been a huge help to us as the Bristol VR blind did not suit the bus in any way except it did show the original destinations.
Our thanks to Chris Pearce for his kind donation.
